Yep, this whole Local Pride marketing trend (it’s everywhere) was sort of cute at first, but is really silly.

I especially don’t get pride in pro sports teams, but I’m a weirdo. Cheering for a college is like cheering for vicarious kids from your area/region. And the roster is ever changing as the kids finish school and go onto to the next thing.

Cheering for pro sports is like taking partial credit for how hard some poor Dominican kid struggled his whole life just to make his way to whichever US city would take him. Yeah, that sound cynical and it is (toward the fans). Good for the kid!
